Raskelf Cricket Club Support Yorkshire Air Ambulance With Running Challenge – Ripon Gazette

The course of 54 clubs stretches from Middleham in the north to Arthington in the south and from Bedale in the east to Bolton Abbey in the west. Aiming to complete their challenge in 17 hours, two members of the club will do the running and a third will drive the pair to their various destinations throughout Nidderdale. First team captain Mat Hawkhead is taking part. He said: If it wasnt a challenge there would be no point in doing it. We dont know how long it is going to take us, but it will be good to highlight Yorkshire Air Ambulance. I am worried about it. It is all right doing 15 or 16 miles normally, but we are having to make stops so the risk of cramping up and pulling a muscle is higher. It is going to be difficult, but we are doing training and I would like to think we are fit lads and we will be able to come through it. We are going to do it no matter what, and if it takes us 24 hours it takes us 24 hours. Mats fellow teammate Harry Ellis will also be running, and another member of the club Matt Goddard will drive them from cricket ground to cricket ground. The challenge will start at Lofthouse at 6am on Sunday May 25, and the club members hope to finish at Raskelf that evening. The three cricket players were inspired to take up the run when watching Sport Relief in the pub, and they were reminded of how vital Yorkshire Air Ambulance is and the necessity of supporting this charitable organisation. Mat said: It can be related to anyone, including in cricket, and they are the only ones who can get to us if we are injured or anything like that. Nidderdale offers some breathtaking locations to play cricket, however the very nature of these rural settings can pose problems if something goes wrong on the cricket pitch. If a serious injury occurs, knowing the fantastic Yorkshire Air Ambulance could be there within minutes is fantastic and a huge boost for any unfortunate player. With The Tour De France descending on our county this year, the air ambulance and their crews will be busier than ever, and raising any amount of money to keep them in the air is vital. l To sponsor Mat and Harry on their run and help them raise money for Yorkshire Air Ambulance, go to www.justgiving.com/MatandHarry
